  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Tell us about your "double-take" moments

I love this thread.

Validation. My wife loves BMWs, but she just rolled her eyes and shook her head in amazement sitting at Starbucks yesterday.

First these 2 guys came up and started asking all kinds of questions. He had seen the commercials, but said it was the first one he had seen and was very complimentary. My egg sandwich was getting cold. Then the couple behind us went to get in their E-class Benz parked next to my Genesis, and he asked if he could take a look inside. He ended the conversation "I think Hyundai got it right".

My ultimate double-take moment!
This morning, I dropped off my 4.6 at the dealer for a minor service. Picked up the car early afternoon. Its been raining the past few days but the sun is out today. So, instead of drive straight home I decided to take a short trip on the freeway. Soon after I got onto the on-ramp a RCMP (police) patrol car pull next to my left and motion me to pull to the side. I thought, holly shit, my first ticket.
The officer walked up to my window and ask: “Sir, do you know what you did?”
“Arrrh… too be honest officer, I wasn't aware of I did anything wrong.”
He stared at me and said “Of Course you didn’t! This is an awesome car. You made the right choice. I have only seen a couple of V6s on the road. This is the first V8 I come across.”
Sensing he was in friendly territory I said “Actually, the dealer told me this is the first V8 in this area.”
“OK, you lucky buster. I tell you what we are going to do. I am going to give you 15 seconds of immunity. When you see my headlight flash, floor this baby and we’ll see what she can do. At the end of 15 seconds I will flash my headlight again. You know what to do then.”
“Yes Sir!”
As soon as he flash his headlight it is pedal to the metal time. Boy, time really flies when you are having a good time. I took a quick glance at the speedo when he flashed his headlight again. It was somewhere between 103 to 105 mph.
He pulled up to my side, gave me a thumb’s up and then sped away.
My heart was still pounding long after he disappeared. I stopped by patrol cars many times in the past this is the only time I didn't get a ticket.
This is one unbelievable Sunday!

WOWWWWWWW!!!! Crazy story! I've always dreamed of getting pull over by the cops so that he/she can take a closer look. But never expect them to FLOOR THE FRIGGIN THING!!! LOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!! OMG that is just awesome!!!!:D:D:D:D:D

Not really a "double-take" moment, but I did get a lot of really nice compliments from a Corvette driver in my office parking lot. He was asking about the car all the way to the office building, and wasn't aware of the 4.6L V8 availability.

I got a big grin from that conversation! :D

I dropped it off early yesterday morning to get the windows tinted and when I picked it up the shop manager told me I almost didn't get the tint. He says when he came in he thought I'd forgotten the appointment and it's his tint guy who told him the "Lexus" in the parking lot was the car that needed a tint :D

I live in the OC near Newport Beach. The land of Bentley's, Ferrari's, Porche's, Jag's, you name it. Mercedes on EVERY street corner, and I do mean EVERY.
All I can say is I've had more double takes, and questions than I can even list here.
My girlfriend and I continue to crack up over onlookers and questioners.

I had a guy in a new Range Rover Sport give me a double take today.

It's amazing how much attention this car garners. I'm guessing a good portion of it is from people who know it's a Hyundai, but can't believe how good it looks. (?) ;)

The other day I was getting gas for the first time when an elderly gentlemen on the other side of the pump asked me if I was driving a new sedan model Aston Martin. I wish I had a camera so I could show you his face when I told him it was a Hyundai Genesis! He smiled and said "fantastic looking car" then he drove off in his Jag XK8. I had just installed the trunk wing logo that morning!

The other day, I had someone at work congratulate me on my new “Lexus” ;) ..

I thought I would share my own personal "double-take" moment (click on each picture);

I wish they would show a real 4.6L in these pictures... The one they show doesn't have the chrome stripe or the wood steering wheel (edit: or an actual V8! LOL). I think if it did, people would crap themselves at how close to the LS460 the Genesis really is. I can't WAIT to snag mine(hopefully a 4.6L w/Tech, although if the money is really that much nicer on the 3.8L w/Tech, I'll take that) this weekend :D What a beautiful car... I'm almost sold on the Silver/Black from these pics!

I had two coworkers and a client say; Wow!!!! This is a Hyundai!!??

I went to park my car in a parking garage yesterday and the attendant was going crazy saying this is the new Hyundai!??? It looks like a Benz. Then he started calling the other parking attendants to come over and look at it. I immediately thought of the scene in the movie :"Ferris Buellers Day Off" when the parking lot attendants take a Ferrari for a joy ride.

I made sure I checked the mileage when I left! LOL!

Not sure why..but it took almost month for me to have my first double-take moment on this beauty! It happened last week at the Department of Motor Vehicles of all places. The ironic thing is that it was by the DMV tech himself, someone who sees hundreds of cars each week. You would think these guys could care less about cars after seeing all sorts of expensive hardware all day long. Well, he was a middle-aged guy who had been there for years. As soon as I pulled-up to his lane, he started. "Man, this is beautttifull car! I've seen the commercials and was waiting to see how long before I got to see one here! This is the first one I've seen!" He took more time looking at the car and the interior than anything else. He drives a Honda, which probably speaks volumes about why he would appreciate a car like the Genesis.

I was walking to my car at the local gym and a lady getting out of her Cadillac Escalade next to me said that her husband just got a new Mercedes and she asked me how I liked mine? I told her I wouldn't know since this was a Hyundai Genesis! The look on her face said it all! She reached into her pocket book and asked me again what model it was as she wrote it down!

Not really a double-take moment, but kind of?

I brought my vehicle into Discount Tire to get winters put on... When I called to make this appointment, the sales guy said they can't wait to see the car... They have heard nothing but awesome things about it. I brought it in and what a stir it created in the shop. Business almost stopped in the back shop! They were actually fighting to see who would drive it into the shop from the parking lot, and then again backing it out. A whole 4 car lengths to drive! Needless to say, they were VERY impressed with the inside and out. The one guy that opened up the trunk couldn't believe the fit and finish...

My latest "double take moment" almost killed someone!

My wife and I were going through the entrance to a Costco's parking lot when I noticed a guy and his wife walking toward Costco. I stopped for them and pointed out to my wife that the guy - early 30's I'd guess - was absolutely stareing at my Gen. So intently in fact, after he passed in front of us, he walked right smack into the side of a minivan going the other way!

Fortunately, no harm, no foul, but it sure was funny! It was clear that HIS wife was then instructing him on watching where he was going!

With any exciting car, I would be really nervous about leaving the car at a service shop. You never know if one of the technicians might take it for a spin, and abuse it.

Ok even some of Santa's best elves get naughty some time...Decided to have a little fun at the expense of some holiday party friends when I asked if anyone wanted to see the new "Bentley" Santa put under the tree. So out goes the suspicious crowd to gander upon the winged badged black 4.6.. Bottom line each end every one of them went home that night believing it was the brand new Bentley "Genesis"model (some claimed they had read about it). They oogled over the tech package, fit and finish and could not believe the smell of the "premium leather"(Courtesy of Zaino Z10-Leather in a Bottle) and unbelievable paint that actually glistened in the moonlight.(Courtesy of Zaino Z8 Grand Finale Spray Seal). A quick test drive up some local steep hills did nothing but seal the deal as the robust torgue and smooth acceleration just blew everyone away. I didn't have the heart to break the news later that night but will correct with each individually this week. Just coal for me next year from this crowd...

Luckily there was a shop window where my eyes never left the vehicle... To and from as well... Yeah, I'm well aware, thanks. ;)
