  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

TUTORIAL: 2015 Genesis trunklid KDM "Wings" Emblem installation

Wings went on without much trouble. Thanks, Motegi. I couldn't find my fishing line so I used some kite string that turned out to be strong enough and thin enough to fit beneath the flying H.

When I went to place the wings, the adhesive grabbed before I was ready for it, but I was close enough that I could push and twist and line it up with my marking tape before it set up. In hind sight, if I were to do it again, I would consider using a water solution to float the emblem into position before pressing it down. I believe they use a similar technique for window films and I have personally used it with other 3M acrylic-based pressure sensitive adhesives. Just a few drops of dawn dish soap mixed in with water and applied via spray bottle should do it. It will give you a few seconds to perfect your positioning and then when you press down on the emblem most of the water is removed. The rest works its way out through evaporation.

The holes look like the ones from the 2014 Wing, Is there any reason why the 2014 Wing emblem would not drop into those holes like it does on the 2014? Anyone got any idea?

I am sure the previous gen wings drop right into place as you say as the flying H was surly not changed in 2015. Only problem is the new wings are not the same design then again I doubt anyone would notice.

I didn't have to do this since my dealer made the swap, but I would think a Hinge Method application would be the best to get a clean placement of the wing.

I think I am going to remove the Genesis and the 3.8 from my vehicle this weekend. I really like a totally clean look on my vehicles. Time to dig up some fishing wire.

You can also bypass the dremel part. A pair of pliers easily pulls them out well below the adhesive level.

Installed mine yesterday. Thanks for the excellent instructions. I also removed the badge from my new boat where the name will go.

Is this the old part? [ame="http://www.amazon.com/Genesis-Sedan-Wing-Trunk-Emblem/dp/B007Z1FSKO"]Amazon.com: Genesis Sedan Wing Trunk Emblem: Automotive[/ame]

Mine have been installed for almost a month now and the bottom of the wing seem to be separating from the trunk. Anyone see this on their wings and if so is there an easy way to reapply adhesive in that section only?

Sounds like you did not prep the surface with alcohol to remove all residue and wax. I do not think you can re-glue this any way easily.

My dealer did it so I'll keep watching it. If it falls off I'll have them get me another one and reattach properly.

Thank you for your incredible generosity in skillfully preparing this tutorial! Excellent works and much appreciated.

A question for those that have done this mod. I have found the wings for the hood of the car and they have the proper spacing of the posts so no grinding or removing posts would have to be done. Other than it being for the hood does any one see a reason this can't be used on the trunk. Here is the link for the part [ame="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00K5D3VXK/ref=pe_344980_121772320_em_1p_6_ti"]Amazon.com: 2015 Hyundai Genesis Sedan Wing Hood Emblem - New Style: Automotive[/ame]

Not sure, but the size maybe different and the curvature is different I'm pretty sure. The hood is curved a bit while the deck is pretty flat in the mounting position.

I was thinking the same thing. There is a slight size difference but that is no problem. I think I would prefer the slightly larger hood wings. I guess the only way to tell for sure is get them both and see if there are any differences in the curve of the wings and how they would sit on the trunk. Thanks

I ordered both of these wings and will pass along the results when I debadge. Went to a dealer and he is locating a car for us - Empire State Gray/Black 3.8 AWD Ultimate. So the debadge process will not happen for a few days.

I've never used a heat gun. Is there any chance it could blister the paint? Any particular way to use it other than to hold it near the emblem?
