  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis GV70 Reviews

Nice! The comments over there are pretty funny....
The comments are funny. Mostly haters and comments about the quality of reporting from traditional print media. In regards to the media comments, the fact is, they’re right. I miss the feeling of being excited to open the newest Car & Driver every month. Now, I’m excited for the newest Throttle House.

However, Car & Driver is still a leader. They recently tested the sister to The GV70, The Stinger, and their only complaints were that it wasn’t faster, and the fact that it was rolling on Michelin Primacy Tour A/S tires (Y’all know my opinion on these). The lateral G’s dropped and in a controlled panic stop from 70 MPH, with those tires, the Stinger took an additional 23 feet to stop! See screen shot below:

To put that in perspective, if traffic is fully stopped, and the first stopped car is a Class C motor home, to stop a car going 70MPH to zero with the Primacy’s, that car will be buried all the way to the engine bay of that motor home! Versus plowing two feet into the luggage area of the RV with tires comparable to the Pilot Sports. Hmmmmm.

That’s why as a public service announcement, I’m recommending to all the readers of this thread in North America to swap out those Primacy’s to your favorite UHP tire, for your safety and the safety of others.

I went with The Continental ExtremeContact DWS06+. Great tire!

Winning the 2021 Mudfest a little while ago (panel of journalists from the NW) was a good indicator of what was to come.

HMG has had quite the run of winning major auto awards with the G70, GV80, GV70, Telluride, Veloster-N and Ioniq 5.

With the Ioniq 5 and/or EV6 and the I20N slated to win more.

Another Car of the Year award for the brand nobody still seems to know here in the States.
Doug Munro gets a lot of things wrong...But when he called out the EXCEPTIONAL GV70 interior design/materials/quality at this price point, he was right on the money - esp. when he specifically called out the Macan as being in second place here. I am a designer at a Tier 2 automotive and am engaged with every OEM manufacturing in the USA for interior components. Back when I replaced my G80 with my G70 Design Edition, one of these US manufacturers was checking out my car after a meeting. They were visibly shocked at the quality and finish, asking me over and over what the price was. "It would have to be priced $15k higher if WE made this thing..."
Nuff said.

Here’s The Driving Sports GV70 review!

Nice to see a few new things in this review but sadly disappointed that we always have to have a fully decked out GV70 for the review. Well over 10k past my max budget. Really starting to twitch for my 2.5t advanced to arrive.

You won’t be disappointed, loving mine!

No, disappointed that it is always a 3.5t fully loaded for the reviews. But yeah, can't wait. :)

was the BMW, Audi or Mercedes in there or could they not deliver due to China virus??

The main quote I would quibble with is the one below. What features specifically? I could get a Santa Fe Calligraphy at $41K, and the thing has a HUD and fully digital gauge cluster. You don't get that until you drop $65K on the GV70.

"At $65,000 loaded, it competes with vehicles that cost $10,000 or $20,000 more." As editorial operations director Mike Floyd said bluntly, "It simply smokes the competition on price and feature set."

This isn't positioned against the Santa Fe. This is positioned against the X3, the GLC, the Lexus NX, the Q5, and so on. And while I think $10k-$20k is a bit of an exaggeration, it's not a huge exaggeration (source: me, who's been hitting up the configurators for all of these models quite a bit over the past few weeks).

I've started looking myself, but am probably not as far along as you are. In your research, what do the X3, GLC, NX, etc seem to lack at a similar price point?

Coming from a BMW into my GV70 I’m familiar with their build site and to get them same configuration the BMW X3M40i the bimmer was about $4k more and still didn’t have heated/ventilated front seats. Did that last week for shits and giggles.

But now add in the $6k my dealership is putting on the GV70 leaves you where? Bought mine a month ago and their market adjustment was $5k and I offered half of that and got $2500 more on my trade. Two could play that game. I said here’s my offer and signed it and told them THEY could move the GV70 on the showroom floor right now or they could try to get $5k from the next guy coming in whenever. They want to move product too and could wait or say yes to the deal in front of them.

This is all from memory, so expect inaccuracies lol. And these comparisons are largely against the 3.5T Sport Prestige.

The Lexus had a CVT, so I ruled that out right away. It also doesn't have anywhere close to the performance of the GV70; I don't think it has a V6 option at all. (Nor does the Acura RDX.)

The BMW is the closest, honestly, and if I can't find the GV70 that I want, the X3 M40i is my fallback.

The Merc (specifically the GLC AMG 43) starts at $61k and doesn't even have leather. As soon as you add leather, ventilated seats, and heated rear seats, you're at $66+. Add in the digital instrument cluster, the upgraded sound system, the HUD, and the powered, hands-free option for the liftgate (SERIOUSLY Mercedes?), and you're over 70.

For the Audi, against the 3.5T you're looking at the SQ5, and its Prestige package more or less lines up with the Sport Prestige. Add the warm weather package, and you're at $69.7k.

Do I even need to discuss Porsche?

The Volvo XC60 is pretty comparable. If you get the Inscription trim line with the B6 power train, add the climate and advanced packages, the upgraded sound system, and the power liftgate (SERIOUSLY Volvo?), you're at pretty much the same price as a Sport Prestige. And I seriously considered the XC60 for some time. I may even still give one a test drive. But the reviews I read highlighted that it's not very engaging to drive, and the ride is harsh. So it's probably my 3rd choice at this point.

Infiniti is a bit of a mess. The QX60 isn't widely available yet, I don't believe, and there's no configurator for it on the Infiniti site. The QX50 is actually cheaper than the Genesis, but...eww. The interior looks super dated. Also, CVT. Double eww.

The Cadillac XT4 is nice, but doesn't have a V6 option. Neither does the Lincoln Corsair. (Also, how many cars does Lincoln even sell anymore? A dozen a month? Then again, maybe they're not playing the ADM game...)

Anyway, that's where my head is at right now. If there are compact luxury SUVs I've missed, let me know; I'm definitely trying to leave no stone unturned. :D

Excellent point. So far, all of my research has been with configurators. I haven't gone out to lots yet. That will probably happen next week-ish.

And keep in mind, this is all because I'm looking at the 3.5T Prestige. If I were going with the 4-cylinder, that would open up some other things (like the Acura or the Caddy).
