Hey andyj... That's what I thought too after watching a you tube video prior to my, 2016 3.8 purchase. Looked all over the top side of the motor for my filter canister... Not there.. Peered over top of radiator and noted the canister bottom left side of motor(on the passenger side) down under just above the bottom panels.. So for whatever reason I need to drop the underside panels.. Was hoping to do it from the top using a "topsider"oil change canister.. Not to be.. Good thing I did not buy one before I took ownership of the car.Looks like the 3.8l can be accessed from the top to change the oil filter and to syphon the oil via the dipstick tube to avoid crawling under the car and removing panels. For die hard DIY aficionados.
It's broke. Don't fix it. I had a 2015 and now a 2018 and the heated steering wheel did NOT stay on. i only had one car that would allow me to keep the seats on and yes, it was nice when you remote started it.File under button inconsistency, the heated seats do not stay on after you shut the car off and restart it. I like that. The heated steering wheel stays on when you restart the car. I think both should act the same since they are both interior heating devices. A VERY minor thing that bugs me. But overall, I love my car!

I must admit that I am still a bit pissed that my fully loaded ultimate model does not have a heated steering wheel, yet has every other feature(HUD,radar cruise, power trunk, etc) that can be had in a late model car. I actually assumed that my Genesis had a heated steering wheel until I tried to use that function my first winter. Surprise!!!
Mine is the '16 AWD 3.8L Ultimate. I would've thought every Ultimate would have heated steering wheel just like mine. Ultimate=Everything, or so I thought.I must admit that I am still a bit pissed that my fully loaded ultimate model does not have a heated steering wheel, yet has every other feature(HUD,radar cruise, power trunk, etc) that can be had in a late model car. My point exactly.Mine is the '16 AWD 3.8L Ultimate. I would've thought every Ultimate would have heated steering wheel just like mine. Ultimate=Everything, or so I thought.
I believe Canada gets it. If you live in a snow area you may get AWD so you would want it and there it is. Now that I live in a warm climate I'd rather have RWD and not heat in the wheel and save $2.2k. I move a year ago and I may have turned on the wheel and seats one morning at 42 degrees, unlike where I lived previously and it was 2 degrees. My point exactly.
However, in Hyundai defense I really do not "need" a heated steering wheel in my area often. Maybe a few days in the winter when the temps are really cold until the engine warm up and if I remove my gloves. Yet, the heated steering wheel option should have been included in all the Ultimate models whether it would be needed or not for a region based on AWD need in my opinion.
Now I am done with my complaining. I feel better that I got that off my chest.![]()
I believe you are correct EdP, however I can think of many of times that awd is not needed but the low temps would constitute a heated wheel. I guess it is what it is. It just sucks is all. Like the the one gentleman said in his post ,Ultimate should have everything. Still love the car. When I started driving I dont believe that front wheel drive was available. So how did we even get around with our rwd cars when conditions were crappy?I believe Canada gets it. If you live in a snow area you may get AWD so you would want it and there it is. Get yourself a heated self sticking pad for bbn oillI was a little uneasy at -35 my car makes all sorts of crackly noises (especially from the glass up top) and the engine was noticeable louder. Can't expect these cars to be perfect but it was a lot more noise then iv'e heard from my other vehicles (of course that could partly be because otherwise the car is so quiet it amplify these things). I do kinda wish it didn't have the glass top that part makes me nervous.
Get a heated pad for oil pan.I have block heaters on my other vehicles for when its balls ass cold like that. I could not find block heater for Genny. So I am going with a Zero start oil heater! That would help it big time!!I was a little uneasy at -35 my car makes all sorts of crackly noises (especially from the glass up top) and the engine was noticeable louder. -35 is hard on any vehicle. My Suburban engine is 95deg when the temp is minus 15. Plugged in for like 5 or 6 hours good to go!I was a little uneasy at -35 my car makes all sorts of crackly noises (especially from the glass up top) and the engine was noticeable louder. For sure its hard on any vehicle, the engine noise actually does not bother me I run full synthetic and if i let it idle for a bit i know the oil will spread around sufficiently and it will quit down. I know whats going on there and that's no worse then any other vehicle, at least it starts, I have had some that didn't! Its the pano roof crackling that is unnerving given the amount of sunroof troubles all over this forum. But it survived the cold intact so I guess its not a big deal (crossed fingers).-35 is hard on any vehicle. My Suburban engine is 95deg when the temp is minus 15. Sounds like the switch assembly is crapping out? I had an Impala that did the same thing.I just purchased s ok me silicone oil so I can lube the window tracks, I noticed when the temp drops the windows move slower than when it is warmer temps. On my 2015 AWD I've noticed that when pressing any of the driver side window switches, the windows won't open/close unless I keep pressing a few times. If I press say the drivers window switch fully down, nothing happens. I have to keep hitting it to get the window to open/close.
Same with my 2016 3.8. It's hit or miss with the intermittent whippers. Very annoying!I have the same issue with the wipers working intermittently while set to auto. My 2010 worked flawlessly. My 2016 is hit or miss and its irritating as heck. When I'm at the dealer next I'll have them check it out. They just straight fail to work at times. Like someone else mentioned, the windshield will at times be completely soaked and hard to see through and I'll need to activate them manually. Other times they're operating perfectly. I have a hard time believing the Zaino om the windshield is causing this, but I'll check it out.
You shouldn't have to use Rain-X for them to work properly.I barely use mine as I treat my windshield with Rain-X. However, when I used them in Auto, they work perfectly. Maybe it is due to the better water beading caused by Rain-X and it is easier for the sensor to detect water droplets. See the comparison below:
