If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2015 Genesis Tech Package - Front turn signal bulb blown - LED Replacement?

click on the green link it should go there anyway - dont know why it says that

Thanks :) funny it sends me to a 404 but the URL shows the part so I googled it and think I'll pick up a pair. Can you return used bulbs? Not that $22 breaks the bank but would be nice to get that money back lol.

I guess you prob can. If you scroll back to the first of this thread the original link to the bulbs is in it

Thank you all!! I got the Pilot bulbs and had the polarity problem on the driver side. 2015 5.0 Genesis

Well I threw $20 bucks at it and picked up a set. The verdict is still coming in. Observations:

1. You have to remove the plastic cowl cover to reach the RH bulb, and even then it is an exercise in contortion to get to it.
2. The LH bulb is VERY easy to reach and change , even without dismantling the vehicle.
3. The LH bulb did not work although it tested ok with the package's "try me" button.
4. The RH bulb did not initially work but then mysteriously it started to do so. It is brighter and better looking than the original incandescent bulb.

I intend to disassemble the car again this evening and try to troubleshoot the LH bulb issue.

Any pointers will be appreciated. These bulbs are supposed to have the necessary resistors built in.

Thanks,
John
I am trying to change lh bulb. I assume you turn counter clockwise and pull out. Mine seems tight?
Thanks in advance

I've had my 2015 Genesis for about a year and haven't blown a bulb yet. That includes a drive from Maine to Florida. I did rewire mine so that the DRL is on the LED strip and the blinker is just a blinker. That may be why mine haven't blown as they're only on when I have the blinker on.
Can you show to rewire the DRL?

passenger side pilot amber led has burned out on the top section only and now its constantly hyperflashing...so it lasted about 4 mos. any other recommendation of quality LED bulbs that don't hyper flash?

I gave up. I just leave the DRL's off. Back to old school. Turn on and off as necessary.

Sounds like we good plan. Let us know what you find!!@

I would agree that LED BULBS are a smarter choice especially when these are lit the whole time during the day. You are correct that these bulbs take very little current to drive them making it a necessity for LOAD RESISTORS to be added in order for the flasher relay to work correctly. However I have a concern when I here people talking about connecting both contacts on the base of the bulb together so that you are utilizing both LED sets at the same time. The problem for me is the increased heat from the bulbs inside the headlights. Normally these bulbs when used as incandescent bulbs are 5 watt and 19 watt. The 5 are for side lights and the 19 are for indicators. Making both circuits active at the same time will of course give you a brighter light either as LED or INCANDESCENT lights. However will it also damage the headlight units. ?? Due to the known issue of the + & - being swapped on these bulb connectors I suggest that if you do replace these DRL lights that you use a test meter and verify that the contact at the base of the bulb is + 12 volts before you install the LED bulbs. Install a 6 watt load resistor across the two wires going to the same LED bulb holder. This way you don’t have the rapid flasher syndrome.

Back to this post again. Replaced my bulbs in July - and now early November and I have another burned out 2357 bulb. This is the 4th replacement in 35 months! I'm converting to LED this time. Too bad Hyundai won't resolve this [known] issue. Aarrrggghhh!

The Pilot LEDs with built-in "CAN bus" were out of stock when I first searched for them, so I picked up another brand of LEDs (and resistors, since they didn't have the built-in, CAN bus) but encountered the reversed polarity issue the first time I dug into it and haven't made time to correct that yet.

I was trying to decide the best place to mount the resistors, but I'm not really liking my options. So I decided to hit PepBoys again... and the not only are those Pilot LEDs in stock, they're also on sale for $14.99!

It’s a shame that it’s been so difficult to find a reliable set of switchback led bulbs for this vehicle.

I just keep my fogs on now and have drl set to off. Should greatly extend the life of the bulbs like that

do not recommend these pilot auto junk.

This is what happened after 4 months and its going to be a pain trying to take the piece out of the housing.

Yikes! Did that just happen on its own? Hit some huge potholes? Do the rest of the leds on the unit still light up?

Well I am sitting at the dealer as I write this. My turn signal bulbs have been replaced 3 times in the past 12 months. I have a 15 5.0 and the latest event in this turn signal story is that the last replacement resulted in one bulb being considerably dimmer than the other. Changing the bulb didn’t have any effect, so Hyundai suggested changing the headlight assembly, which is being done now.
This dealer has been great to me, but this is really starting to be a pain.

Did they end up replacing the entire housing or just the bulb?

From my observation on my 2015 Genesis Sedan w/HID headlights, the 2357A DRL/Turn Signal bulbs are being pulsed on-off by the Turn Signal circuit, not a voltage increase-decrease as described earlier.
This is correct - the signal lamps in the "Type B" assemblies of the 2015 Genesis are dual purpose (turn signal / daytime running light), but they are not dual-function (turn on, get brighter), like a brake light. Brake lights typically have two power wires into a standard 3-wire 1157 socket to enable the dual-functions of the two-contact/two-filament bulb.

My Genesis has 1157-style sockets, but they only have a single power wire and associated contact. So, only one of the two filaments in the bulb is ever used. To my knowledge, these are a Hyundai-only part. Why they chose to modify a dual-function component to accommodate a single-function requirement is weird.

I am replacing my factory sockets with standard two-wire 1156 sockets that accommodate single-contact/single-filament bulbs. My hope is that the corresponding 1156 LED (https://www.amazon.com/SYLVANIA-ZEVO-White-Contains-Bulbs/dp/B01A77QQTE/ref=sr_1_14?ie=UTF8&qid=1548694505&sr=8-14&keywords=1156+led&th=1) will work without issue; they only pull 1.5W compared to the 21W of the 1156 incandescent and are much more appropriate for the always-on load of a DRL.

Please keep us updated on how well this strategy works.

Would be great to know if the Sylvania 1156 ZEVO works allright on the 2015 Genesis. Let us know if it works allright ?

Not sure if its 1156 ZEVO or 2357 ZEVO - both seem compatible with 2015 Genesis

The 1156 and 1157/2357 sockets are different. The 1157/2357 is for dual-contact, two-filament bulbs and has offset pins that ensure the bulbs go into the socket one way. 1156 sockets are for single-contact, single filament bulbs. The pins are aligned because it doesn't matter which way they are inserted into the socket.

Since these lights are single function, Hyundai may very well have used both socket types. If they used the 1157 type, as they did in my car, it's likely they are Hyundai-specific two-wire, single-function versions.

You'd need to check your specific car to see which type of bulbs are in it.
