  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Tell us about your "double-take" moments

Went to the Mercedes dealer in the Genny to get some parts for the SL. I pull in and 3 salesman greet me like I was royalty. They just could not stop staring at the car. I have been here several times but nobody even blinks normally (real snotty bunch) Wonder if they figured out what brand it was. :D

Sounds like the BMW dealer in Nashville. Don't go into their showroom unless you're wearing a coat and tie and preferably a tux.

When I was shopping for my car (which resulted in the Genesis), I went by the BMW dealer with my two thirty year old sons. It was Saturday afternoon, and all three of us were wearing jeans. Two salesmen walked by us without saying anything. Finally one of my sons stopped a salesman, introduced me, and said I was looking for a car and was interested in a particular BMW model.

The salesman did not shake hands with my son, and he did not even bother to turn his head to recognize me let alone shake my hand. He curtly said "We don't have any on the lot." My son asked when he thought they might get one, and he said "I have no idea". My son then asked for a brochure, and the salesman said "Well, we try not to give out too many of them." I have had other similar experiences at this BMW dealer.

My wife bought a 330xi several years ago, and we drove to another town to avoid doing business with this dealer.

Was driving home from work and two guys in a VW were looking ever which way to see what I was driving. As they passed me, the passenger guy got up from his seat and turned all the way around to try to see anything that would clue him as to what car I was driving. It was A W E S O M E!

I parked today next to a BMW M3, and the BMW owner happened to walk up as I was getting out of my Genesis. He stopped and stared at the back of the Genesis, then he looked at me and said "That is a fine looking car! What is it?" I told him what it was, and he said "That's a Hyundai?! It is really beautiful. I'm going to have to go drive one."

At a stop light I see this guy almost on my bumper trying to make out the wing logo writing. He then pulls up close to the side trying to read the rear wheel cap logo and finally gives up and pulls next to my window signalling me to open and talk to him. He says, "excuse me sir but I am a car salesman and have never seen this type of car before. What brand is it may I ask". I looked at him with a big grin and said Hyundai. I wish I had a camera because his eyes almost popped out of their sockets. :D Something like this. http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_6I27LgG9b...AAA2k/pz3cFAXq2Uc/s400/Guinness-Records-0.jpg

Here let me help you with that link!

reved it at a meet up and all 200 heads snaped at once, that was sweet!

Today we had some distant relatives of my wife's to brunch. The wife and daughter had been here before, but not the husband. When he came in he asked me about the car in the garage - I told him and he said, "When we pulled in I saw the car and thought it was a Bentley. I was asking myself 'who ARE these people anyway?'"
He's a car guy - I took him for a ride and he was very impressed - opined a similar car from any other maker would cost 10 or 15K more - but we know that already, don't we? :D

Kind of really not necessary to revive this thread, but I just had to. Had a brand new E350 pull up along side me, motion for me to roll down window. Then asked what kind of car I had. After he asked me whether it was a Hyundai (he pronounced it Hun-dye-aye). Yes, I replied but don't you think it looks like a Bentley? To which he replied, "Yes, it sure does". Now I turned to my wife with a big poop-eating grin and said,"that's another one".
So I believe he may have guessed correctly because of the rear GENESIS on trunk, so I've got to consider removing same.

Yep...absolutely MUST remove the chrome text from the rear of the car. With the KDM wings alone, it drives people batty trying to figure out what the heck you're driving.

I have had about 5-6 in the last week in and around Austin, Texas:

1. Getting petrol off Far West in North Austin. A gentleman with a State Capitol parking sticker comes up to me and asks, "What kind of car is that!? Man that is beautiful!" We went on to talk for about 5 mins; he seemed genuinely interested. Asked about price, features, etc. He also asked if it came in a Hybrid.

2. Gentleman on Mopac (one of two major North-South expressways) was breaking his neck trying to catch up to me to see what the car was. You could see the puzzled look on his face as he pulled along side me.

3. Two fellows in a Lexus IS-350 in Lakeway (in The Galleria Parking Lot).

4. Gentleman in a 350z that I had to zip around to pass in order to get in the turning lane in Bee Caves.

5. (According to girlfriend) Gentleman in a G37 in Bee Caves

6. Two women smiled flatteringly in a Georgetown parking lot.

Girlfriend has noticed 2-3 other incidents. "It's the car; it's not me." (I'm not sure if she likes this or not :-) ).

You must be one of the only other guys in Austin with a black Genny. I never see 'em.

Last week, I was pulling out of the Chipotle near Lakeline Mall, and several co-workers who were also eating lunch there saw me leave. Gawking ensued. The next day another co-worker comes up and says "Hey, Darrin says he saw you driving a Bentley yesterday!" I was amused.

ExLongHorn...do you have pictures of your car with the LEDs installed? Where have you installed the LEDs? What was cost and how do they look?

Every non-LED light is replaced. License plate, trunk, door "puddle" lights, vanity mirror lights, glove box, front footwells, etc. The cost wasn't bad...maybe $7-15 per light. Several other folks have posted a bunch of good photos so I'm not sure if I'd add much to that.

Welcome and I like the Bentley remark! My Genny is white though... See you around Austin!

While stopped at a light in my Bentley Continental Flying Spur, a car pulled up beside me and asked me how I like my Hyundai Genesis. ;)

This evening I phoned a carryout order to our neighborhood Chinese restaurant that we have patronized for years. I parked in front at the pickup area along the curb. When I went to pay, the owner (a middle aged Chinese woman) glanced out the window and asked if that was my car. I said it was, and she asked what make it is. I told her and she said the hubcap emblems didn't look like Hyundai. I explained about the Genesis wing logo, and she asked if she could come out and take a look. She left the register, with several people waiting in line, to go out and do a walk-around with her sister, chattering all the while in Chinese. She then remarked about what a gorgeous car it is and returned to her business. It's kind of fun to own a car that generates attention like this. ;)

This car in unbelievable! Today I went to get my car wash. (second one at the same place) When I pull up the guy goes "Dude, the last time you were here and left we were all wondering what kind of car it was." He then kept saying "from the front it looked like a Bentley but from the back a 7 series". I told him with pride...."its a Hyundai". He was in shock. I go in to pay, walk outside and sit down in the benches to wait. As the car wash gets more packed I notice people are all just looking at my car and this lady kept whispering to her husband "what kind of car is that?". When it was all done the guy goes "READY!" so I get up and just walk through everyone and get in the car. I felt like a celebrity! LOL! I honestly love driving the car, I really do...

Thank you all for also having this site up! Its shares so much information its amazing!

Our 2009 has the wings so people are always trying to figure out what we are driving. My first double take I was doing the looking. I was passing a black Genesis while going through Evansville, IND on my M/C. Thought it was a Mercedes.

The neighbors all went crazy the first sunny day I had the Genesis sitting in the driveway gettings it's first carwash. The neighbor came over and said that is a beautiful car is it a Mercedes ? He asked to look at it and I humbley obliged ( right :) .The neighbor next door who just bought a Buick Enclave was estatic about the Genesis. I had another neighbor state he had looked into the Genesis as well. Its fun watching people check out the car. ;)

Oh man, another day of feeling like a celebrity!

Yesterday at work some random guy comes outside and goes "nice car man! I really like it!"

I then come home and one of my neighbors is throwing out the trash and sees me coming out of the car. He jammsssss over and was like "this is a slick car! Is it a honda? is it fast?" chatted with him for a while and he was impressed!

Then today I went to SF and parked my car in a garage. The attendants, when I returned, were all waiting! They all came up to me and were like "Man, that is a beautiful car! When I parked it I thought 'this isnt a lexus, this isn't a mercedes...' its a Hyundai?" LOL! Another guy thought it was a Bentley.

Then, on the way home there was a Lexus IS in front of me. I can tell the driver was looking in the rear view mirror and checking out my car. All of the sudden the passenger and another person in the back both do a complete 180 and are looking out the window!

This car is amazing!

Today is Sunday and my wife is off to the local breakfast place late. Tourists all over the area beaches and the regulars have gotten all our usual "safe" parking spots. A very long walk away she spots our corner place occupied by a silver Lexus SC430 hardtop. She understands why he is parked there and parks next to him, hoofs it back to the restaurant. On the way in, the Lexus owner is on the way out and asks her, "Is that the new Lexus sedan?" "No," says she, "it's a Genesis." "Ah, the competition!" he opines. She retorts, "That's what my husband says when he sees a black ES350." ;):D
