Aftermarket Subs in Genesis?

Well I started my install today. I only routed the blue "antenna" wire which hooks up to the amp. I put an in-line toggle switch on this wire so I can cut power to the amp if I want to. You never know whos going to be riding with you. Here are some pics for anyone interested.

Oh, I spent a good long time trying to figure out how to get the wire to the trunk once I got it to the back seat. I had to go directly behind the back seat then down through the "pass through". I somehow snaked the wire behind the back seat and behind the trunk lining.... So the wire isn't going directly through the "pass through".

Doing it this way probably lost me 2' feet of wire.... I hope I don't need to add any... I think I might...

Yup exactly how I routed mine. I contemplated with the idea of drilling a small hole below that rear pass through door, but decided not to.
I removed the seat bottom cushion to gain better access.

That toggle switch idea is awesome! Maybe I should add one myself to have the ability to turn the sub on and off at will.

Why not add a few more batteries to the trunk, wire them in series, and run the output to your seat? I guarantee it will feel just like someone is beating a drum on your chest, and your hair will definitely move.

Rear Deck Cover Removal

Hello,

I'm putting in a 15" kicker with a 500 watt JL amp. I'm not using a remote wire since the amp can turn on when it detects a signal. I kinda wish I got the more expensive JL amp that has a wireless bass control, but oh well.

I got the 4AWG power wire installed, but I can't figure out how to remove the rear deck cover to tap into the stock sub for a high level input. I'm in AZ so it's really hot in the trunk, so it would be nice to know what I'm doing before trying to get it off again so I can do it quickly.

Does anyone know how to remove the rear deck cover (inside the trunk) to get to the stock subwoofer?

P.S. I have a 2012 Genesis Sedan 3.8

Caloric I'm interested in an amp like yours that doesn't need a remote wire. What do I need to look for in an amp that has this ability? Do I look for an amp that advertises "no remote wire required" or some other indicator? What indicator would it be?

Most new amps have the feature, it's called signal sensing. Mine is a JL JX500/1D mono block amp.

I figured out how to get the speaker cover off in the trunk and hooked up 4 wires to the stock sub wires, and plugged them into my high level input in the amp, but the signal sensing isn't working for some reason. I read on another thread about someone having the same problem but there wasn't a resolution. I'll have to figure out why the amp isn't turning on when the stereo is turned on. It turns on when I put a jumper wire from the 12v to the remote, so the amp does work.
 
I need help??? I have a 2009 genesis sedan with the lexicon sound system. I don't like the stock sub so I'm putting 2 12's in it and a kicker amp but I'm keeping the stock HU: for LOC location should I splice into the rear left and rear right speaker from the bottom side through the trunk or from up top under the rear deck lid? Or Is there a better location? Also I was told to hook the remote wire on the passenger side fuse panel up front to the 30amp fuse for the ignition key supply, is that correct?

uhhh, why would you tap a LOC into the door speaker when you can tap into the existing sub? its right there! lol

and my remote wire is ran to a 20A fuse, however, it doesnt really matter

Cause a guy at an audio store told me not to go through the sub. And the rear speakers are next to the sub up on the rear deck. But will my amp jus push jus the subs and the factory amp jus push the interiors n factory sub if i splice the LOC to the factory sub?

Oh I'm sorry, I thought u were talking about the rear DOOR speaker. Completely blanked out about the speakers on the rear deck. Well in at case, it really doesn't matter which one you tap into.

And to answer your question: yes, your stock amp will power everything except for the aftermarket sub(s). When you splice the LOC into the existing speaker wires, it amplifies the signal going to the sub amp which will then power the sub(s). In the case of the genesis (if you have the lexicon system), the LOC isn't necessary because the signal going to the speakers is already very strong due to the fact that they're being powered by the stock amp. Most stock car speakers are powered off of only the headunit (very little power, therefore requiring a LOC)

By chance do you know the location of where I should tap the LOC into the rear speakers..I pulled off the rear deck after removing the seats, and I was thinking of tapping the red - blue wires from the left speaker and the yellow - brownish wires from the right speaker..is that correct??? I have a 2009 genesis sedan wit lexicon system

If I'm understanding correctly you have a LOC with more than 1 input (more than one speaker can be hooked up as an input). If this is the case do not use more then 1 input. Tap into only 1 speaker, left or right it doesn't matter, and USA an RCA splitter at the output to connect to the two RCA cables connecting to the amp. This will give you a stereo output and not a mono output.

Using one input and a splitter at the output instead of 2 input and 2 different outputs is better because both of the RCA cables will be getting the same exact signal. Using 2 inputs would require you to match the gains EXACTLY and if they are not marche exactly you could have phase issues. If you still need help feel free to ask again.... I love this stuff :D

Well what if I jus tied both inputs together, right + and left+ together and the right - and left -...is it possible to do that and run my outputs normally??? Also should I do the loc before the amp or after the amp? I was thinking before the amp because of the crossover network from the stock amp

Doing that will basically connect both speakers. so if you are playing a song where some parts are supposed to play out of only the left or only the right, it will play out of both. (kinda defeating the purpose of having left and right speakers).

And yes, you are supposed to put the LOC before the amp.

Well a guy from an audio store told me if I used the stock sub signal it would cause problems down the road...so I'm not understanding why everyone says either before or after the amp? Which one is correct? And should I use the rear deck speakers or the sub?

All signals going to any speaker is always analog, therefore tapping the LOC into the speakers (whether it be the deck speakers or subwoofer) will get an analog singal.

And yeah, I told him earlier that tapping into the subwoofer instead of the speaker would be ideal. you are right about the frequency range, therefore, making more sense to tap into there.

you dont want to put the LOC after then amp, the LOC provides a pre-amp output.
